MLC Youth Program

The Youth program is comprised of boys and girls from grades K through 6.  The season will run from the third week of February to Mid-May.  The breakdown of teams will consist of the following:

Boys

K-2nd - Modified body contact, teaches the basic lacrosse fundamentals, play on a shortened field, practice twice a week.  This program will start in mid to late March with games starting in April to mid May.  Games will be played on Saturday.

3rd-4th - This level will focus mainly on the basic fundamentals of the game that include passing, catching and ground balls along with understanding the rules and having fun.  They are not allowed to use full body contact or take out checks. Take out checks are defined as checks in which the player lowers his head or shoulder with the force and intent to take out (put on the ground) the other player.  Practice is twice a week with games on Sunday.

5th-6th -  This level will focus on improving the fundamentals and understanding of the game along with play sets on both offense and defense and having fun.  Body checking will be allowed.  Practice is 2-3x's a week with games on Sunday.

Girls:

3rd-4th - (1st&2nd graders allowed) This level teaches the basic lacrosse fundamentals.  Proper catching, passing, and cradling is emphasized.  Modified pockets are allowed at this level.  Games are on Saturday mornings.  No checking is allowed at this level.

5th-6th - This level will advance to perfecting catching, cradling, passing, and scooping.  Play sets of offense and defense will be introduced.  Modified checking is allowed at this level.  Games are on Saturday mornings.

All youth players can play up onto a team, but not down.  Each player will receive a US Lacrosse membership which will provide a secondary major medical coverage resulting from any injuries from a US Lacrosse recognized practice/game/tournament.  Each player will receive a full uniform (tops and bottoms) that is club owned.  All equipment needed to play is the responsibility of the player/parent.  Practices and home games will be held at Miami Meadows, while away games will be played throughout Greater Cincinnati.  All coaches are given a background check and required to complete the Positive Coaching Program.

The Youth program will participate in the following tournaments:  Milford Laxjam, Steel City Tournament (boys only), Lakotafest (girls only), K-2nd Playday (K-2nd only), and Cincinnati Laxfest.  Your annual dues covers the cost of all the tournaments.

Our main focus on the youth is to be competitive at a fun level, while developing the proper lacrosse fundamentals and techniques.
